Housesteads featuring in BBC series

A NORTH East tourist attraction will take centre stage in a new TV history series tonight.

Housesteads Roman Fort, in Northumberland, features in BBC One’s new history series ‘National Treasures Live’, broadcast tonight at 7.30pm.

The show will see presenters, historian Dan Snow and the One Show’s Michael Douglas, exploring the stories behind some of Britain’s most fascinating historical locations, including world heritage site Hadrian’s Wall.

The presenters filmed scenes at the dramatic hill top fort to capture the stories behind its existence as part of the famous Roman frontier for an episode dedicated to the country’s historical treasures.

Richard Polley, head of visitor operations at English Heritage, said: “We’d encourage people to come and visit Housesteads Roman Fort and see for themselves just how stunning the National Treasure and World Heritage site that’s located just on their doorstep is.”
