Police investigating Haltwhistle bottle attack

POLICE are looking for a broken drinks bottle used in a violent attack outside a club.

Two men in their 20s were attacked during a disturbance outside the Conservative Social Club on Main Street, in Haltwhistle, Northumberland at around 12.45am on Saturday.

Officers believe the pair were attacked with a broken glass bottle. They were both treated at hospital, but are now recovering at home.

Detectives are particularly keen to find the neck of the bottle, thought to have caused the injuries and are asking if anyone comes across a broken alcopop type bottle neck around the Main Street area not to pick it up, but to call police immediately.

A 23-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of affray in connection with the incident but officers still want to speak to two men in their early to mid 20s.

Det Sgt Peter Jeffrey, of Northumbria Police’s Northumberland area command, said: “An arrest has been made and enquiries are ongoing.

“We would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have witnessed anything to come forward.”

Anyone with any information should call Northumbria Police on 03456 043 043 ext 691 91 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
