PUPILS at a Northumberland school were celebrating after notching up record GCSE results.

An impressive 93% of teenagers at Cramlington Learning Village picked up at least five A* to Cs, with 65% making the grade in English and maths – a rise on last year.

Four students picked up 10 straight A*s each, with two Year 11s scoring nine top grades, and a further two achieving eight.

Lauren Carroll, Kate Sheffer, Karl Mclean and Scott Goodfellow were the quartet who collected the perfect 10, with the latter three also getting an extra A.

All plan to stay on at the school’s sixth form to do A-levels.

Lauren said: “I am very pleased with my results because I was not expecting them to be as high as they were.”

Her classmate Scott added: “I can not believe it, I did not expect that at all.”

One of Karl’s A*s was in maths which he picked up in November 2009. He also picked up an A at AS-level maths, which he took a year early.

Karl said: “Absolutely fantastic; I did not think I was going to do that well.

“In some exams, I did not think I had done well.”

Kate added: “I am so happy, really happy. I had no idea.”

Ross Hudson got nine A*s and two As, and is to stay at the school for his A-levels.

He said: “I am delighted with my results but the perfection side of us wanted to go for all A*s, but I certainly can not complain so I am very happy.”

Bronwyn Irving got six A*s and four As, and will also be staying on for her A-levels.

Headteacher Wendy Heslop said: “It is a record set of results for the school so we are absolutely delighted.”
