SIX-MONTH winter protection measures are to be put in place on two countryside routes in rural Northumberland.
Restrictions have been placed on Slaley Forest and Blanchland Moor to protect the routes between October and May.
Vehicles will be barred from sections of the roads to avoid damage to the tracks and surrounding areas.
Signs have been erected prominently to advise which roads are and are not available.
Northumberland County Council highways chief Andy Rutherford said: “We are working with local landowners and the Forestry Commission to help deter illegal use of other tracks throughout the area that are being damaged by motor vehicle use.”
Illegal use of vehicles on restricted byways can bring a fine of £1,000.
