Duke of Wellington chef through to Masterchef final

A CHEF from a pub in the Tyne Valley is to go head-to-head against another North East chef to become the culinary king of Masterchef.

Last night audiences watched as John Calton of South Shields, who works at the Duke of Wellington, in Newton, near Stocksfield, and David Coulson of Wingate, County Durham, battled four other chefs to make it into the final three of Masterchef: The Professionals.

The intense show saw the remaining six chefs split into pairs to cook their way into a place in the final three of the competition.

Inspired by their time at a two- starred Michelin restaurant, the chefs put everything into preparing two courses for  double Michelin- starred chef Michel Roux Jnr and Masterchef Judge Gregg Wallace in a sudden-death cook off.
