THE ninth Tynedale Beer Festival raised a record £56,000 for charity – an increase of nearly a quarter on the amount raised last year.
The festival, held at Tynedale Rugby Club in Corbridge, was organised by Tynedale Lions and the rugby club.
The money will be split between the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, Brave Hearts of the North-East, the Alzheimer’s Society and the rugby club’s sports-related projects.
More than 26,000 pints of fine ale were served to 5,500 visitors over the festival’s three days.
More than half the 108 ales, lagers and ciders were from brewers in the North East including Wylam, Hexhamshire and Mordue.
The amount in this year’s festival raised is an increase of 22% on what was raised in 2009.
