Burnside estate residents make a difference

PEOPLE in a Northumberland town have been putting pride back into their community during three days of action.

The MAD – Make A Difference – initiative was carried out on the Burnside estate in Bedlington Station, organised by social landlord Bernicia.

Residents of all ages were encouraged to get involved in themed activities such as a family fun day and a litter pick, with free skips provided for the disposal of bulky rubbish to improve the look of the neighbourhood. There was also advice about keeping gardens tidy and well tended and a competition for those with green fingers.

Locals were able to take part in aerobics sessions to encourage them to improve their fitness, and there was advice on money management and ways to gain skills.

Gemma Robson, community investment team leader at Bernicia, said: “The MAD event was a huge success for everyone involved and is a great example of how we can achieve so much more by working together, creating a community spirit that can help improve life in the neighbourhood.”
