ASHINGTON middleweight Ian Turnbull suffered his first pro defeat when he was knocked out in the fifth round at Seaburn’s Pullman Lodge Hotel by Mansfield- based Latvian Alex Spitko.
After early dominance, Turnbull was caught and downed for a count of nine by a right hook in the fourth round and finished off a round later.
Another right-hand flush on the chin brought another count of nine, before referee Graeme Williams stepped in to end it.
“I got a little carried away and should have stuck to what had served me so well when I was on top in the first few rounds,” said Turnbull, whose record now stands at two wins, one defeat and one draw.
