Former Wansbeck teacher remembered with trophy

A FORMER teacher who devoted more than 60 years of her life to developing musical talent in Northumberland is to be remembered with a special trophy.

Ella Hughes, who was involved with the Ashington and District Male Voice Choir as accompanist, conductor and musical director for almost half a century, died in January.

Now the choir has donated a silver salver in her memory to Wansbeck First School in Ashington, where Ms Hughes used to teach. It will be awarded annually to pupils for musical achievement, and will be presented for the first time in June.
