Amble art student sets up in business

A NORTH East student with a passion for art has set up a new business selling unusual pieces which were developed for a course project.

Artist Larraine Duquemin, who has just completed the foundation degree in applied arts at Northumberland College, developed the idea for her products as part of her coursework.

Larraine, from Amble, took inspiration for her artwork from the uniqueness of the individual and has used this theme to develop two personalised products, called a “Skies at Birth” light box and “Traces”.

Larraine said: “The Skies at Birth light box relates to my theme of mapping and the relation of the individual to his or her universe.

“It illuminates the constellations at the precise time of each individual’s birth.”

Traces is a family portrait with a difference, using fingerprints which are captured in glass.

Her work is on display at Sunderland University until Friday.

Larraine will then be displaying at the Amble Development Trust in Queen Street.
