A FURTHER tribute has been paid to a popular community volunteer in Northumberland who died following an accident while working at a quarry last weekend.
Davie Hume, 58, who was part of the team of volunteers who put up Alnwick’s Christmas lights, was pronounced dead in hospital following Saturday’s accident at Longhoughton Quarry, where he was operating an excavator machine.
Mr Hume, who lived in Chapel Lands, Alnwick, had worked for 13 years as a mechanical engineer at RAF Boulmer.
Yesterday station commander, Group Captain Jeff Portlock, said: “I was greatly saddened to hear of this tragic loss. Mr Hume was a very popular and outgoing man who had worked tirelessly at RAF Boulmer.”
