Alnwick book debate to be broadcast on BBC radio

BARTER Books in Alnwick hosted an event to whet the appetite for a festival of debates which is heading to the North East.

Last Friday the shop hosted a debate called Is the Book Dead? as part of BBC Radio 3's Free Thinking Festival.

A panel included children’s author David Almond and Chris Meade of the Institute for the Future of the Book. You can hear the debate on BBC Radio 3’s Night Waves programme on October 14 at 9.15pm.

The main events of The Free Thinking Festival will take place at the Sage Gateshead next month. Visit www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/freethinking/ for full details.
