Champagne is a perfect mix

Wine of the week
JM Gremillet, Champagne Brut Rosé Fenwick £23.50
Deep pink champagne made from a rosé base wine of pure Pinot Noir. Rich, dry and toasty with hints of red fruits including cherries, redcurrants and raspberries, with a nice twist of bitterness at the end. It was sublime with a salmon pasta bake.
Wine extras
Aldi choose their wine with care and continue to come up with a few real bargains. I was particularly impressed by Cambalala Pinotage /Shiraz 2009 from South Africa (£3.99).
It’s a hugely enjoyable, vibrantly fruity young red, with a smell of juicy plums and bubblegum, followed by a soft, ripe flavour rounded off by just enough of a tannic bite.
Aldi’s New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc: Freeman’s Bat 2008 (£5.99) is also very good, with typically heady aroma of ripe peach and passion fruit and has a crisp, fruity taste that’s not quite as bone dry as some.
