    WHEN the pound coin was introduced on April 21, 1983, it quickly gained the sobriquet, “a Maggie”. It, according to the wags of the time, reminded them of Mrs Thatcher because it was “thick, brassy and thought it was a sovereign”. How we laughed. Read
