THE family of a father-of-two killed in Berwick at the weekend have paid tribute to him as a man who “lived his life to the full”.
Callum Henderson, 41, was stabbed to death outside a home in Glamis Hill, Berwick, in the early hours of Saturday. The father-of-two was found unconscious with serious injuries amid shattered glass and smashed cars.
Detectives arrested four people in the aftermath of his death. A man and two women were later released without charge, while a 39-year-old man was bailed yesterday afternoon.
In a statement released yesterday, Mr Henderson’s parents Billy and Sandy Henderson revealed that he was an experienced climber who had once survived being struck by lightning. They said: “Callum was a loving father, son and husband who will be missed by all his family and friends. We are so proud of what he achieved in his life.
“He was an enthusiastic climber who was the youngest person in the north of England to climb the three north faces of the Alps - the Eiger, Matterhorn and Mont Blanc.
“Amazingly when he was at the summit of the Eiger he was struck by lightning and survived.
“He told us how he saw the fire come up his access ropes and burn the straps of his rucksack.
“It was thanks to two friends that he survived because they shared their own kit and brought him safely off the mountain the following day.
“His lucky escape made the television news in France. He worked as a geological technical engineer who specialised in inaccessible excavations. He also loved motorbike racing and travelled to the Isle of Man to watch the TT races and to Ireland for The North West 200 where he was allowed to start one of the races.
