Champagne was the order of the day at Newcastle's Theatre Royal yesterday as the cast of Jack and the Beanstalk celebrated coining in a lot more than a few magic beans.
The pantomime, starring Jill Halfpenny, Craig Conway and father-and-son comedy double act Clive Webb and Danny Adams, has officially passed the £1m mark at the box office, making it the most successful in the theatre's history - and the fastest-selling panto in the North-East to boot. The exact figure taken (up until yesterday's matinee performance) was £1,000,079 - if Wallsend-born Michael Harrison, who wrote, directed and produced the show needs any incentive to get cracking on the script for next year's offering, Aladdin, he could do a lot worse than casting an eye over the receipts.
There are a limited number of tickets left for the remaining performances of Jack and the Beanstalk, which runs until January 20. Call 0870 905-5060 or visit www.theatreroyal.co.uk for details.
