SIGNS warning motorcyclists to take care will again be adorning Northumberland’s country roads.
Yellow signs warning bikers about the dangers of speeding and cornering will again be put up on roads where police have received reports of dangerous riding.
They will be put up this month, ahead of the Easter bank holiday and remain in place until mid-October.
The signs will appear at Berwick, Alnwick, Morpeth and West Northumberland.
They have been employed for the last three years by the Safer Northumberland Partnership, which comprises Northumberland County Council, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service and Northumbria Police.
The signs are credited with reducing the number of fatal and other accidents involving motorbikes on the county’s roads. Last year, there were two fatal collisions.
Coun Anita Romer, the county council’s executive member for public protection, said: “Over the years there have been a number of lives lost on roads in the county but since the scheme launched in 2010 the numbers have been going down.
“Last year there were two fatalities as a result of motorcycle accidents during the months when the signage was out in Northumberland.
“This is two too many and we are hoping that these warning signs will continue to have a positive impact on the behaviour of people who may otherwise drive dangerously on our county’s roads.”
