Newcastle Airport's new website showcases rare views of North East

AIRPORT bosses are flying high after launching a new website featuring a rare birds-eye view of North East landmarks.

Newcastle International has redesigned its website to make it easier for smartphone and tablet owners to use.

And its new homepage features stunning views of some of the region’s best- known sights.

Airport chief executive Dave Laws said since launching the new site, complete with the pictures taken by local photographer David Webb, the feedback from visitors has been extremely positive.

“We wanted to simplify the information so it’s in an easy-to-use format and also wanted to make the website visually appealing by using panoramic photography of the destinations served by our airline partners as well as vibrant images of the North East region,” he said.

“We think it shows a snapshot of some of the fantastic destinations we offer so we’re very pleased with the overall look.”

The old airport website attracted over 1.3 million visitors and saw more than 30 million page views every year.

But in only a few days of the new site being available more than 40% of the traffic to it is coming from tablet and smartphone users, Mr Laws said.

“We’ve listened to what our customers want and have adapted the site,” he said. “Modern users are looking for data across a range of technologies so it’s only right that we made this a priority.

“And we’re delighted with the initial feedback.”
