YOUNG parents Shaunie Small and Adam Phillips got a surprise delivery on Christmas morning when their baby daughter was delivered in the bathroom.

Not only did Santa pay the Washington couple a visit, but the stork came with little daughter Phoebe who was delivered by grandma, Michelle Barrs.

Shaunie and Adam, both 18, were enjoying watching their other daughter Skye, one, open her presents yesterday morning when the telltale pains began to kick in.

The new mum said: “The first pains actually started the night before but they weren’t very regular until the morning.

“I was having them while Skye was opening her presents, but I thought ‘I want to see her open all her presents.’

“As soon as I rang my mum they started coming on really strong and as soon as she ran in I was starting to push.”

Adam said: “I was in complete shock but I was on the phone to the midwife who was talking us through what we needed to do.

“Skye was just toddling around thinking ‘what’s going on here?’ and playing with her new buggy.”

Just a matter of minutes after Michelle, 36, had delivered her granddaughter at around 8am, the ambulance arrived and Shaunie and Phoebe were taken to Gateshead’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The shocked parents say they are over-the-moon with the arrival of Phoebe, who was a week-and-a-half early, and are looking forward to having a double celebration on December 25 for years to come.
