Murder probe after man's body found in Elswick

A MURDER investigation has been launched following the discovery of a man’s body in a Newcastle tower block.

A man, believed to be in his 60s, was found at the flat in The Sycamores, formerly Cruddas Park, in Elswick, Newcastle, on Saturday afternoon.

The cause of death has yet to be established and a Home Office post-mortem was due to be carried out last night.

Three people, a 43-year-old woman and two men aged 53 and 76 have been arrested on suspicion of murder, and are in custody. It is thought the arrested people and the victim were known to each other.

DCI Paul Young, who is leading the investigation, said: “An investigation is now under way to establish the full circumstances of the death and police are appealing for information or anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of The Sycamores to contact police.”

Anyone with information can call Northumbria Police on 101 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
