THOUSANDS flocked to see the Olympic Torch flame as it visited the Angel of the North in Gateshead at about noon.
Iris Hutchinson, 69, of Ryton, proudly carried the torch around the landmark before making her way along Durham Road.
She said: "I just feel so honoured and overwhelmed. It was great to see everyone along the way cheering me on - it was such an exhilarating experience."
