A NORTHUMBRIAN take on a popular advert has caught the eye of comedian Bob Mortimer after racking up thousands of fans.
The television ad for shower gel Old Spice has been recreated by 30-year-old Warkworth man Daniel Gurney.
And the Northumberland version has attracted almost 3,500 hits from around the world on video sharing website YouTube.
The original advert features muscle-bound American Football star Isaiah Mustafa dressed in only a towel, in his bathroom, on a tropical beach, a luxury yacht and finally on horseback.
“The Man your man could smell like” has proved popular on both sides of the Atlantic and has sparked countless spoofs.
The North East version, “Urld Spice”, features the somewhat less muscly Daniel, also topless, on a chilly-looking Warkworth beach.
The minute-long black and white take ends with him apparently perched on his dog.
Daniel, who originally hails from London, utters in a mock Northumbrian accent “Urld Spice – it makes you smell lush.”
The ad-libbed video, which he shot in one take then edited on his mobile phone while out walking his dog, had last night pulled in 3,484 hits on YouTube, 3,000 in the past week alone.
Viewers from 39 countries have checked it out and it has been given the seal of approval by North East TV star Bob Mortimer.
