Port of Tyne bosses name boat after Sir Bobby Robson

Sir Bobby Robson work boat

BOSSES at Port of Tyne have named a boat after ex-Newcastle and England manager Sir Bobby Robson.

The £1.1m vessel is the latest addition to the port’s fleet and will work to keep the river channel and berths safe for shipping.

The Sir Bobby Robson will be used for marine construction work, buoy handling and other general duties.

It is the latest tribute to Sir Bobby and was announced yesterday just days after the foundation set up by the great man revealed it was nearing £4m in donations.

The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation has now raised £3.9m for cancer care in the North East and this month helped buy a cancer scanner, only the second of its type in the world, for the region.
