SUNDERLAND defender Titus Bramble was last night bailed by police after being arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and possession of a class A drug.
Bramble, 30, was arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning following an alleged incident in Yarm, Teesside.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “A 30-year-old man from Wynyard has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and possession of a class A drug.”
Last night she said the man had been released on bail pending further inquiries.
The former Newcastle United star, who played in Sunderland’s 2-1 away defeat at Norwich on Monday night, was questioned by police in Stockton-on-Tees.
The incident comes a year after Bramble was arrested by Northumbria Police over an alleged rape in a city centre hotel, he was later released without charge.
His older brother Tesfaye was convicted of rape and jailed for four-and-a-half years but is now in the process of appealing against his conviction.
Last night a spokeswoman for Sunderland AFC said the club will look into the matter but did not comment further as Bramble is subject to a police investigation.
