Fundraiser for inspirational Blyth boy Cory Davison

NOT even a bit of rain could dampen Cory Davison's spirit as his family held a huge fundraiser in his honour.

On Saturday hundreds flocked to the Kitty Brewster pub in Blyth, Northumberland, despite the rain to lend their support to the family’s latest fundraiser in aid of Cory United.

Seven-year-old Cory, of Blyth, was diagnosed with a severe malignant tumour the size of a plum around his brainstem in February, leaving his family devastated. But Cory’s friends and family have poured their energies into setting up Cory United, a local fundraising campaign in honour of the seven-year-old who captured the hearts of people around the world when his family set up a Facebook group to chronicle his journey.

This weekend the fundraising continued as Cory joined his parents Donna and Steven for the family fun day even though he had just been released from hospital that morning.

The youngster had suffered a high temperature and weakened immune system following his last round of chemotherapy.

Cory’s grandfather Ted, 65, said: “He got released at 10.30am but he was there and he was brilliant. His consultant advised Donna not to let him stay too long because his immune system is low and he did not want him to be in a confined space with a lot of people in case he got the sniffles.

“But he had a nap and came back out and meet a lot of people and they were just in awe of him.”
