TIME is running out to nominate your school for a top award through The Journal’s popular campaign which celebrates the hard work of our region’s teachers and pupils.

For the fifth year running, The Journal has teamed up with its sister paper the Evening Gazette and associate sponsor, Northumbrian Water, to bring you the North East School Awards.

Since this year’s launch, we have been overwhelmed with the response from proud teachers, students and parents. However, there are just 10 days left to get your nominations in.

One of the most popular categories is the Active Community Award, which aims to praise schools that encouragement involvement in projects from all students and the wider community.

Last year’s winner of the Active Community Award was The King’s Academy in Middlesbrough.

Throughout the year, the school stages events which aim to bring pupils and staff together with parents and residents from the surrounding community.

Some of the most popular events include a dads versus teachers football match, a senior citizens’ Christmas party and a fashion show.

As well as hoping to bring people together and showcase the fantastic work taking place inside the school, the events have also raised thousands of pounds for good causes.

Head girl Chloe Busby said: “We have three charities which we support through a variety of fundraising activities and events.
