Power cut doesn’t stop couple's special day

Ryan Walmsley and Jenna Lillico

HEAVY snowfall left a young couple’s wedding reception without power after a blizzard turned the ceremony into a truly white wedding.

Ryan Walmsley, 25, and his bride Jenna Lillico, 24, were caught in the middle of a snowstorm which took out the electricity at Linden Hall, Northumberland, where the couple were tying the knot.

Twenty minutes into the drinks reception the lights went out and guests were treated to a candlelit reception while staff worked to get the power back on.

Ryan said: “It started snowing during the ceremony then during the drinks reception the power went off. The snow was really coming down. We were left to do the photographs by candlelight, which actually added to the atmosphere. We had a roaring log fire to keep our guests warm and it to be honest it’s made it all the more memorable.”

The couple, who met while studying English at Newcastle University, four years ago arrived at the hotel with their guests on Saturday. The power was turned back on at around 5pm yesterday.
