Fireworks in Blyth

THE dark North East skies will be alight with rockets and catherine wheels over the coming days as bonfire night is upon us once again. And there will be three-days of extravagant displays and impressive bonfires all over the region to help families celebrate Guy Fawkes Day in style, and in safety.

To ensure you get the best views at the most spectacular displays, here’s a list of the family-friendly, supervised events taking place across the North East this weekend.

North Tyneside

SEGEDUNUM ROMAN FORT, Wallsend, from 6.30pm on Friday 5. Free entry. Call 0191 236 9347 for more details.

South Tyneside

OCEAN BEACH PLEASURE PARK, on Sunday. There will be a short display at 6.30pm with the main display at 8pm. Car parks will be open until 10.30pm.

Northumberland

ALLENDALE BONFIRE, Bridge End, Allendale, on Friday from 6.15pm. Entry £1. BBQ Food, refreshments and prize draw available.

HEXHAM BONFIRE NIGHT, at Sele Park, on Saturday. The bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm with fireworks starting at 7pm. Free admission.

MORPETH RUGBY CLUB, on Sunday. The bonfire will be lit at 6pm. Entry charges are £4 for adults and £2 for under 12’s.

ALNWICK RUGBY CLUB, Greenfield, on Saturday. Bonfire and fireworks display with doors opening at 6.30pm.Entry for adults is £5, children and OAP’s £2.50 (children under 5 are free).

Gateshead

There will be three organised displays at SALTWELL PARK, OLIVER HENDERSON PARK and BARMOOR, RYTON on Friday. All begin at 7pm and all have free entry.

Durham

BISHOP AUCKLAND RUGBY CLUB, West Mills Playing Fields, on Thursday. Fun fair begins at 5.30pm, bonfire lit at 7pm, and fireworks begin at 7.20pm.

HELFORD ROAD PLAYING FIELDS, Peterlee on Friday. Bonfire lit at 6.30pm, fireworks display at 7pm. Children’s entertainment from 5.30pm to 7.30pm in the Pavilion.

RED ACRE POINT, Seaham Dock area, Seaham, on Thursday from 7pm.

ACKLEY HEADS, Durham, from 5pm on Friday. The Aykley Heads Police Headquarters are hosting the annual Guy Fawkes celebrations in Durham, featuring fireworks and a bonfire. Refreshments are available and there are plenty of parking spaces at County Hall. Adults £3, concessions £2 and children go free. For more information call 0191 384 6905.

WITTON GILBERT BONFIRE, Shadforth Play Area, Shadforth Community Association, on Saturday between 6pm and 7.30pm. Free admission.

CHESTER-LE-STREET CRICKET CLUB, Ropery Lane, on Saturday. Gates open at 5.30pm and display starts at 6pm. Tickets cost £3 for adults and £2 for children up to the age of 14.
