Newcastle choir set to perform at Westminster Abbey

CHORISTERS are to take their cassocks to the capital for a prestigious Westminster Abbey concert.

The Newcastle Cathedral Girls' Choir is set to perform at some of London’s most iconic religious landmarks.

The choir, made up of ten to 17-year-old girls, was formed two years ago to follow in the footsteps of the established boys’ choir.

Now, after months of hard work, the 15 singers are preparing for their biggest performance yet.

After warming up tomorrow with Evensong at Guildford Cathedral, in Surrey, the choir will head to London where they will provide the backdrop for worshipers at St Paul’s Cathedral on Thursday night.

The tour will then culminate in Evensong at Westminster Abbey on Friday and Saturday, where hundreds of visitors will watch the girls perform in the majestic 700-year-old surroundings.

The choir will perform hymns including Holy Father, Cheer our Way and Salve Radix Sancta.

The Newcastle Cathedral Girls’ Choir practise twice a week, as well as singing in the cathedral’s Sunday services, during wedding ceremonies and at the ordination of priests.

The cathedral’s boys’ choir has been established for many years and has toured extensively, including a recent trip to Paris.
