AN INQUEST into the apparent suicides of two best friends will be opened in Northumberland today.
Police have confirmed they have referred the deaths of Christopher Harrington, 20, and Kieran Kenny, 19, to the Coroner for South Northumberland, after the pair were found hanging in a wood, in Cramlington.
The coroner’s office said it expected the case to be opened and adjourned today by assistant deputy coroner Paul Dunn.
Police are currently preparing a file on the deaths, which they believe did not involve a third party.
Chris’ father Peter Harrington yesterday told how seven letters for family, laid out on a table at the home they shared, had been handed to police for consideration.
Shoppers around the Brockwell Centre, next to the woodland where the young men were found by an elderly dog walker, said they had seen police seize CCTV footage as part of the investigation.
Heartbroken Mr Harrington, 49, of Delamere Crescent, Cramlington, said: “I came downstairs on Tuesday and found seven letters on the kitchen table, all written by Christopher.
“One was addressed to me, the others were to other members of the family and friends.
“I don’t want to say what was in them, it’s very personal. The police have taken the letters away.”
Floral tributes were laid to the two friends at the entrance to the scrub land where they were found together. One accompanying card on a bouquet simply read: “RIP Kieran and Chris.”
