“But with more money, so much more on all levels can be achieved, and so many more young lives saved.”
Dubbed Curry for a Cause, the centrepiece of the campaign will be four glittering Indian banquets.
The dinners will culminate in a VIP evening on June 10 when guests will be invited to dine like a president, as Raval recreates a menu first served by Barack Obama to Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on his state visit to Washington last November.
The campaign will begin on June 5 with a day of festivities in Newcastle City Centre including curry tastings, Indian dancing and musicians.
Then, connoisseurs are invited to sample the cuisine of the Indian region of Goa on June 7, Punjab on June 8 and Bengal on June 9, before taking a leaf out of President Obama’s cook book on June 10.
Denise Robertson said: “Raval’s unbelievably generous offer will have effects all round the world because the medical research it will help pay for is shared worldwide.”
Other events planned for the week include a Nominate Your Parent competition. Schools are being encouraged to urge their pupils to nominate their mum or dad to win a day in the kitchens of Raval, ending with their own banquet for family and friends.
To nominate their parent, each child must raise a minimum of £10 for the Bubble Foundation UK.
The children who raise the most money will enter a separate competition to win prizes including the chance to be a ball boy or girl at Newcastle United.
