THE Princess Royal will today officially unveil a new public transport hub in the region.
Princess Anne will declare Haymarket Metro station in Newcastle officially open as part of her visit to Tyne and Wear.
The Princess is also due to visit Olympic competition boat-makers Ovington Boats Limited, in North Shields, and Beacon Hill School and Specialist College for Business and Enterprise, Rising Sun Cottages, Wallsend.
As President of the Royal Yacht the Princess will look around the Ovington Boat factory to see sailing dinghies being built for the 2012 Olympics.
Managing director of Ovington Boats Chris Turner, said: “I would hope she would be pretty impressed by the factory. It will be great for her to see a boat made from scratch.”
The trip is the first of two to the North East in the space of three weeks for the Princess.
She will visit Northumberland on April 16 to give her blessing to a number of projects.
Her strong links with the equestrian world have made her the ideal choice to officially open Pegasus riding centre for the disabled, on the outskirts of Morpeth.
As patron for the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, the Princess Royal will also open the refurbished Wansbeck Citizens Advice Bureau, on Station Road, in Ashington.
