Week left to enter Tokens for Schools competition

Stella McRae, community investment manager for Barclays in the North East, said: “Barclays Money Skills helps individuals develop their confidence and ability to manage money and we want schools to get their pupils involved in managing their potential winnings.

“For example, how much do you need for that trip? How would you split your top prize share of £3,000 between departments that really need funding?

“We want to see projects involving financial education and therefore any projects with a financial literacy theme will receive an extra 250 tokens.”

We last ran the competition in 2008, when 42 schools registered and 14,053 pupils, with the help of their teachers, friends and family, collected more than 40,000 tokens.

After a break in 2009, we hope our 2010 campaign will be our best yet.

To take part, schools must complete the registration form, which is being printed in The Journal every day. Your application must be received no later than 5pm on Friday, March 19.

Once registered, it’s then up to you, your friends and family, pupils and teachers, to collect as many tokens as possible for the chance to win the top prize.

The tokens will be printed in The Journal, Monday to Saturday, starting on Monday, March 29 and running until Saturday, May 8, 2010.

Additional bonus tokens will also be printed on some days during the campaign.
