NETpark launches eco-friendly competition for schools

On March 25, another project, The Appliance of Science, will launch at County Hall, Durham, showing the role of technology in everyday life.

NETPark, which opened in 2005, now hosts 15 science and technology firms and claims to be the fastest-growing science park in the UK.

Catherine Johns, director of innovation for the County Durham Development Company who has organised the competition for NETPark, said: “Project C is about getting out to communities and telling them who we are and what we do, and about the opportunities for people and their children.

“We wanted to create an exciting project for school children that would heighten their awareness and excitement for the activities taking place at NETPark.

“This generation of young people will play a key role in both the ongoing success of NETPark and in the future of the planet.”

Helen Burton, assistant head teacher at Greencroft School, said: "We were really keen to get involved in this project . Not only are our students learning about something that is current and hugely important to them, but they are being encouraged to share their knowledge with others.”

Masatsugu Yamano, spokesman for SANYO, which has sponsored the competition through the company’s Legacy Fund, said: “Although leaders around the world have realized the urgency of climate change, the onus will ultimately be on today’s children to turn back the damage tomorrow. SANYO feel urged to provide them with the necessary tools to help them with their future challenges.”
