Robson Green promotes Newcastle in new NE1 ad

A TANNED Robson Green flew into Newcastle yesterday to star with a flock of kittiwakes in a new TV ad promoting the heart of the city.

Robson follows pop star Sting in contributing to the Get into Newcastle marketing campaign devised for Newcastle NE1, the company set up to make the city centre – designated a business improvement district – a more appealing place.

In the TV ad, which will make its debut on April 1, Robson will be seen surveying the River Tyne from Newcastle Quayside, kittiwakes wheeling overhead.

Before the time-honoured cry of “Action!” the director would add a less conventional: “Excite the birds, please.”

There were some female fans waiting to have their photo taken with Robson but this was the signal for bread to be thrown to get the seabirds in a whirl.

Robson, who grew up in Dudley, just north of Newcastle, has homes in Surrey and Northumberland.

With yesterday’s footage in the can, he said: “I know the importance of home and the North East will always be home.

“A vista like this, with the modern attractions and the famous bridges, gives you a sense of belonging.

“It means you have roots and gives you a purpose to your life.”
