Car warning

MOTORISTS are being reminded not to leave valuables in their cars.

The alert follows a number of incidents in Sunderland where expensive items left on show in empty cars were stolen.

Neighbourhood Insp Neal Craig said: “Leaving valuables on display such as sat navs, mobile phones, handbags and music players in a car is an open invitation to thieves.”

CHARITY

Shopping first

A CHARITY that helps homeless people has opened its first shop in the North East.

In partnership with retail chain John Lewis, the Cyrenians will sell clothing for men, women, children and babies, as well as shoes and accessories, in Cruddas Park Shopping Centre, Newcastle.

Prize school

A NORTHUMBERLAND primary has scooped £5,000 after being named School of the Month award by the School Food Trust.

Cambo First School, where the head is Paula Cummings, pictured, is the first in the region to receive the award, which recognises its commitment to educating pupils about healthy eating. The prize money will be spent on the school kitchen.
