Designer Scott Henshall hunts for senior supermodel
Feb 9 2010 by Liz Lamb, The Journal
Scott, who is famed for creating the world’s most expensive frock, presents the show as well as acting as a mentor for the women.
It is not his first foray into television. In 2006 Scott appeared in the reality TV show I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!
Scott says: “This show is different because the women are not size zero, they are real women, women who are a size 16, who are a real shape, this what women in the real world look like.
“I end up being a style mentor as much as a shrink.
“I give them lots of advice and listen to them. They have a little breakdown and I build them back up.
“It’s about making the women feel comfortable in their own skin.
“They should not look like they are in their 20s. They are beautiful women who should look their age. It’s about finding the perfect one who can be a real model.
“It’s great because I think viewers will think ‘I look like that’ and they will feel better about themselves.
“It’s about showing women of a certain age are beautiful.”
Producer Marty Redman says: “It feels like older women have been getting some stick recently with the ageism rows over Arlene Phillips and newsreaders.
“We think it’s time to remind people women can be fab at 40 – look at Carla Bruni, Cindy Crawford or Yasmin Le Bon.”
Kitchen Sink To Catwalk airs on the Biography Channel on February 16 at 9pm and runs for six weeks.
