A JUDGE branded a shamed university lecturer “wholly perverted” as he jailed him for having sex with a 13-year-old schoolgirl in a luxury Jersey hotel.
Biomedicine expert Trevor Jackson admitted using the internet to seduce the teenager, before arranging secret meetings near her home in the Channel Islands.
The 47-year-old’s crime was discovered only years later, when the girl confessed in a letter to her mother what had happened, Newcastle Crown Court heard yesterday.
Police who raided Jackson’s home and office at Newcastle University found a pair of the girl’s underwear, while there was also child pornography pictures and films stored on his computer.
Jackson, of Lyndhurst Avenue, Jesmond, Newcastle, admitted five counts of meeting a child following sexual grooming and five counts of sexual activity with a child.
Jackson also pleaded guilty to two charges of making indecent photographs of a child and three charges of the possession of indecent photographs of a child.
The offences, which happened between September 2005 and February 2006, came to light last year.
Prosecutor James Adkin said the lecturer, who resigned his post at Newcastle University last October, met the teenager who was then aged 13 on an internet chatroom for adults interested in making sexual contacts online. The court heard that Jackson had been “excited by the risk of the pursuit” of the young girl.
