Re-Cyling so pupils can get on their bikes

“The event is a great way for the kids to buy bikes for this test at affordable prices. We also wanted the kids to see how important it was for them to recycle things, rather than throwing things away.

“It’s great to think someone else will be getting some use out of their old bikes. It will encourage the children to recycle, as well as push them to cycle from an earlier age.”

Staff from cycling firm Ride will be on hand on the day to check the bikes are road safe for the pupils.

The team will be there to adjust brakes, assist with punctures and advise buyers on other repairs.

Manager Tim Binks said: “There is always plenty of life left in a bike but when fashions change children are always keen to get rid of their bikes and get new ones.”

The bikes will be overhauled and sold on for between £5 to £50.

The event has been organised by Sacred Heart’s parents and friends group, which has been running for more than 15 years to raise money for the school so pupils can enjoy a range of activities.
