Really show you care – buy her a red squirrel

EXPENSIVE chocolates and flowers are what most lovers expect from their sweethearts on Valentine’s Day.
But a charity is urging couples to give each other another, less traditional gift – a red squirrel.
With the animals in decline, Save Our Squirrels (SoS) is hoping people will adopt one as a sign of their love for their partner.
In return for the cost of a bottle of champagne, adopters will receive a special gift pack which includes a soft cuddly squirrel, a cotton bag bearing the Save Our Squirrels logo, and a fact sheet about their adopted creature as well as a postcard of a red squirrel.
Most of all, adopters will have the satisfaction that their adoption will make a difference to the future of red squirrels in the North of England, as the money will go towards ensuring SoS is able to continue its work of managing red squirrel woodlands, public engagement projects and working closely with other organisations to ensure the red squirrels survives for future generations to enjoy.
Adopters will also have the opportunity to send a personalised certificate in their partner’s name, to show they care for them just as much as they do about squirrels.
Anybody interested in giving a Valentine’s present with a difference, for £22, can download an adoption form at www.saveoursquirrels.org or call Christine Westerback on 0191 284 6884.
