THE freezing conditions are again causing problems across the North East after one of the coldest nights of the winter so far.

Temperatures plummeted overnight on Thursday, turning the snow into ice in many areas and making journeys treacherous.

Police across the North East have issued warnings to drivers as road conditions became hazardous due to the weather.

With more snow forecast over the next few days Northumbria Police is advising motorists to exercise extreme caution, particularly when driving on untreated roads.
