Weather forecast predicts snow for flood hit Cumbria

This has caused severe problems for the community, with children’s journeys to school and workers commutes being heavily disrupted.

But last night’s weather warning could delay the recovery efforts.

The Cumbria Community Foundation is coordinating the donations that are being offered to help people whose lives have been affected by the floods.

Representatives from Northern Rock visited the area to meet workers from the community foundation and find out how the money will help.

Northern Rock Foundation chief executive Penny Wilkinson said: “We wanted to act quickly to help people in the area who have been affected by the floods and we have therefore made this emergency donation of £100,000 outside our normal grant making process.

“The trustees were very concerned about the situation and we will be working closely with the Cumbria Foundation to offer any help and support we can with the distribution of these funds.”

Deb Muscat, acting director at the Cumbria Community Foundation, said: “This is just fantastic news.

“The Northern Rock Foundation has always been a valued supporter of the voluntary sector in Cumbria.

“This cheque demonstrates their continued commitment to our communities.”

The Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund has already raised more than £600,000 since its launch two weeks ago.
