Weather forecast predicts snow for flood hit Cumbria

RECOVERY efforts in flood-ravaged Cumbria have been thrown into chaos, with forecasters last night warning of snow and plunging temperatures.
Temperatures across Britain are set to drop as low as -5C over the next two days, before Northern England and Scotland could be hit by a blanket of snow.
John Hutchinson, forecaster for MeteoGroup UK, said last night: “The heavy bursts of rain were dying away tonight but a cold weather front across the UK will see temperatures as low as -5C tomorrow. It will be unpleasant in parts.”
Among the areas set to be hit by as much as 3-5cm of snow could be areas around Cockermouth, which was submerged just over a week ago following more than 12 inches of rainfall in 24 hours.
The news comes as the victims of the devastating floods are trying to get their lives back to normal.
Among the organisations offering support is the Northern Rock Foundation, which provided an emergency grant of £100,000.
Soldiers from the Royal Engineers have also started to build a footbridge to reconnect the north and south sides of Workington.
Currently, after flooding destroyed one of the town’s bridges and damaged the other to the point of collapse, the only way to get from one side to the other is a 20-mile round trip.
