North schools get top marks in report by Ofsted

DOZENS of North schools have been named among the best in the country by Government inspectors Ofsted, which published its annual report yesterday, listing the schools that have been graded “outstanding”.

Several childcare providers, such as nurseries and childminders, were also highlighted for the exceptional service they provide.

Among the elite band of schools is Emmanuel College in Gateshead, which has been graded outstanding in its last four inspections.

This means the school has maintained an unbroken record of first-rate inspection reports throughout its 19-year history.

Principal Jonathan Winch said: “Such an endorsement is rich reward for our wonderful students, their supportive and enthusiastic parents and our highly dedicated staff team.

“The fact we have not only maintained our standards but also improved in some areas since the last report shows that you can never rest on your laurels.”

Another outstanding secondary is Kenton School, in Drayton Road, Newcastle. Headteacher David Pearmain said: “The whole school is proud of what we have achieved and continue to achieve, but we are already planning for the next stage: From outstanding to ‘world class’.”

And St Bernadette’s RC Primary in Wallsend, North Tyneside, has been listed in the report for another year.
