WITH a flick of her magic wand panto princess Roxanne Pallett brought Christmas to Newcastle.
The Emmerdale star, who is currently on Tyneside preparing to take on the title role in the Theatre Royal’s Christmas panto, Cinderella, delighted hundreds of onlookers last night when she officially turned on the city’s festive lights. But breaking with tradition the actress, who was born in Carlisle, chose not to flick the switch.
Instead she borrowed a magic wand from her Fairy Godmother and flicked that instead.
Crowds who braved the cold winds to witness the switch-on gasped with delight as Roxanne illuminated a carpet of light suspended above Grey Street, and covering the monument.
She said: “This is my first ever panto and I’m dead chuffed to be in Newcastle. My favourite part of Newcastle is the Geordie accent. Everyone is dead friendly.”
Families who attended the big switch-on, on Grey Street, were also treated to a sneak preview of this year’s panto when Roxanne’s co-stars Clive Webb and Danny Adams, who will be playing the Baron and Buttons in the theatre’s most star-studded panto to date, put on a sketch.
