Shoppers in a frenzy for M&S 1p festive offers

NORTH East shoppers bagged a Christmas bargain when Marks and Spencer launched a Penny Bazaar.

For one day only, the high street giant yesterday offered a range of products for just 1p as customers flocked to its Northumberland Street store in Newcastle.

And the Newcastle Student Choir made a special appearance as they burst into song as shoppers queued for their stocking fillers.

A total of more than 350 M&S stores across the UK took part in the Christmas Penny Bazaar.

The promotion is a repeat of the chain’s highly successful Penny Bazaar which it held this year to celebrate 125 years of trading.

M&S said more than one million customers had visited the stores by noon to take advantage of the 1p products, with some shoppers having queued since 6am to secure the Christmas stocking gifts.

Sir Stuart Rose, M&S chairman, hailed the prtomotion a success. “Thanks to M&S, millions of people will be getting a little something extra in their Christmas stockings this year – and all profits are going to local charities,” he said.
