Now punters can buy their own racetrack

RACEGOERS at Sedgefield will today get the chance to pick up a brand new Monopoly: Durham game - for free.

London Monopoly chiefs have sponsored two of the races on the card – titled : “Buy Monopoly: Durham Edition for Christmas”.

It is the very first time this has happened in the UK. And to celebrate they will be giving out spot prizes for those who spot the Monopoly man wearing the top hat. Promoter Graham Barnes said: “The game is out for Christmas and Sedgefield racecourse is one of more than thirty county landmarks Passing GO so we thought it a good idea to sponsor a race.”

As well having its very own space on the board – price to buy £140- the racecourse also features on the box lid.

The game – launched last month – is for sale at: Borders, Debenhams, HMV, Tesco, Toys R Us, Waterstone’s and WH Smith. Copies can also be ordered online from www.Sedgefield-racecourse.co.uk

More than thirty county favourites occupy the multi-coloured sites. The spirit and shape of this edition is identical to the original London edition – as are the colours, playing pieces, and rules.

The County Durham edition of Monopoly will join the Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough versions.
