Beach ball that scored Sunderland goal and sunk Liverpool FC up for auction

A PIECE of footballing history is to go under the hammer as part of a charity auction to help sick children.
The famous beach ball which helped Sunderland score and claim all three points against Liverpool last month went on sale on eBay over the weekend. The sale closes on Saturday and all profits will go Liverpool’s Alder Hey Childrens Hospital Imagine Appeal, which helps support Europe’s busiest childrens hospital.
Martyn McFadden, editor of Sunderland fanzine ‘A Love Supreme’, said he thought there would be huge demand from red and white supporters.
“It is one of those things that people will never forget if they were at the game,” he said.
“Since then we have had no luck at all.
“We should unveil the ball before the next match against Arsenal. Maybe we should play it up front or get someone to roll it onto the pitch again like against Liverpool.
Bidding is sure to be fierce to secure the red ball, which caused a fluke goal after it was thrown onto the pitch by a young fan and deflected a shot by Darren Bent.
To place a bid visit www.ebay.com and search for ‘Sunderland beach ball’.
