Metal Dave sculptures on display at Tynemouth Station

Skeleton art installation by Metal Dave set up by Linskill Centre artist Steven Twidle at Tynemouth Metro

MAKE no bones about it, the latest display at a Tyneside station is enough to stop passengers in their tracks.

A collection of skeletal figures crafted from recycled metal have gone on show inside the footbridge spanning the rails at Tynemouth Station.

The figures are indulging in activities from gardening and skydiving to riding a motor bike, playing guitar and enjoying a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale.

The skeletons have all been created by a Forest Hall artist known as “Metal Dave”.

He constructs the figures at the Art Studio in the Linskill Centre in North Shields. Scrap metal, piping, wire wool, bike chains and nuts and bolts are used to make the figures in a cutting and welding operation.

“With the figures taking the form of a human skeleton, I can produce any pose I want and I have constructed 15 so far,” he said.

Steve Twidle, lead artist at the Art Studio, said: “The figures are humorous.

“They are skillfully put together and I think they are great.”

The exhibition runs until November 27.
