Success proves sweet for Great North Runner

A COMPETITOR in the Great North run has donated £1,000 to charity after winning a competition in The Journal.
Holly Durham gave the money to the North East Trust for Aphasia (NETA) – a charity that helps people with communication problems.
She also scooped a year’s supply of great-tasting sweets to share and enjoy at her leisure.
The Journal and Swiss Confectioners Ricola launched a prize draw for runners to top up the money they had already raised for their charity.
Ricola’s Ruth Douglass said: “Ricola wanted to hear from readers who took part in the Great North Run and congratulate them on their efforts by giving them £1,000 to give to a charity of their choice.
“This was in recognition of their hard work and dedication.”
Co-ordinator of NETA Support Centre, Rose Hilton, said: “The money was unexpected and it is a huge bonus for the charity. Much of the money goes on part-time employment assistants and this will enable people with aphasia to do something a little bit extra.”
The charity is still deciding how to spend the money but it may be used to help people with aphasia travel around the region.
